New Venue! 5th May 2025

I am excited to announce that this week, the musical arm of Tip Top Tutoring is going to run from a lovely studio in the village of Tupton. Tupton Methodist Chapel have kindly agreed to host us! Thank you to all my lovely families who have welcomed me into their homes for over 5 years. You have been so friendly and hospitable and I have enjoyed meeting parents, siblings, pets, grandparents and great grandparents! However….. as you all know it is very time consuming, costly and tiring for me to drive around, especially in the cold and dark winter months.

We are making this change for my own health, safety and well-being but also because we believe this will be advantageous not just for me but to my young musicians. For a lot of musicians, trying to have a lesson at home can be challenging in among the hustle and bustle of family life. The goings on in the home can easily distract learners and the teacher!  The piano/flute lesson in a professional studio will be a sense of occasion, a time put aside to focus purely on making music for the musician.

I prefer to teach from premises as this means that my musicians will have opportunity to play my beautiful modern Kawai acoustic piano every week. This is a very valuable opportunity; especially for developing experience in playing different pianos as all pianists have to do this for concerts and exams. Some students do not have the luxury of a good instrument at home so it will help them enormously to play a quality instrument.

I look forward to seeing you all and thank you for supporting me as I begin this exciting new chapter for Tip Top Tutoring.

Spring Term Success!

We are absolutely thrilled with the ABRSM results this term. Our musicians all passed with either merit or distinction and the comments from the examiner were very positive. Particularly pleased to see how the hard work on scales and sight reading paid off! Congratulations to:

Olivia - Initial grade piano with distinction

Darci - Grade 2 piano with distinction

Taranya - Grade 2 piano with distinction

Reuben - Grade 4 piano with merit

Xinyi - Grade 5 flute with merit

Victoria - Grade 5 piano with distinction

Dan - Grade 5 piano with distinction

Kerry - Grade 5 piano with distinction

Delighted to receive these certificates from the ABRSM. It's always lovely to hand them over to my musicians.

Exam Comments included:

'A suitably robust musical performance.'

'A lyrical performance, and the ending was well tapered.'

'A graceful opening to the work and touch was suitable gentle and expressive.'

'Scale patterns were secure at a suitable and sustained tempo and touch was nearly always evenly graded. The contrary was neat and the chromatic flowed easily. Arpeggios were smooth in contour and confident in delivery.'

'This had a sense of poise and the phrasing was suitably elegant with the legato sustained by pedal. Much of the detail was included and touch was nearly always evenly graded with the dance-like character defined.'

'The dynamic changes were included and there was an arresting opening with the hands nearly always well synchronised and most of the articulation clear. A musical account with the dramatic character well projected.'

'Well done on your splendid result, and good luck as you move onwards!'

14th December 2024 - Christmas Concert

Our musicians really were Tip Top last week! Everyone played their pieces well, the program included classical music, popular styles and of course Christmas music. We concluded with a rousing performance of Hark the Herald Angels Sing. Have a listen on our Facebook page.

We have received a lovely letter from Laura at Pathways of Chesterfield. It was great to meet Thabani, Sian and Jules on Monday when I had the pleasure of taking in the money raised at the concert. Thank you for such a kind and encouraging letter Pathways. Thank you to all our musicians and their families.
